All The Way Home

'The South Sudanese community is one of many refugee communities that were forced to leave their homeland because of civil war, coming to Australia for safety and to build a new life. In a sense we are straddling two cultures and that is a wonderful thing.

I hope this book helps people to understand, that whilst we were living through hard times, it was our beliefs, our culture and our faith that kept us going. When we were running for our lives, when we were foraging for food, when we had nothing but the clothes on our back, we still had our culture and no-one could take that away from us. Our culture is the very essence of who we are'.

"In My Kingdom' is a book of great imagination and courage. The stories are told with clarity and integrity as viewed from the frontline. They encompass the trials and tribulations of contemporary Africa - the famines and poverty, the impact of war, the pain of loss and displacement - and include accounts of epic treks to a new life, and years endured in refugee camps. Yet in its colour and scope, and it's vibrant presentation, it is infused with a sense of hope and celebration. It is a wonderful reflection of what is best about contemporary multicultural Australia."

The stories in this book were collected from children living in the Latrobe Valley area. These stories are real, as seen through the eyes of the children. They are the thoughts, feelings, experiences; the stories, of the South Sudanese refugee children, living in Australia. These are the images that visit when they close their eyes in the night. These are the stories the world needs to hear.

We thank Kids Own Publishing for seeing the value in the stories and for volunteering their time to bring this book to fruition.
